Sixty Year Anniversary Special Training at Aikikai Ibaraki Branch Dojo(2005/6/3written)
This year the Aikikai Ibaraki Branch Dojo celebrates sixty years since it was started in 1945 by aikido's founder, Morihei Ueshiba. On the afternoon of 3rd and morning of 4th May, Moriteru Ueshiba Doshu conducted a special training to commemorate the sixty years of this unique dojo into which the Founder poured so much effort.
Doshu's busy schedule barely allows him to make it to the monthly ceremony at the Aik Shrine, so it was extraordinary to be able to enjoy two days of training with him.
The training was limited to 100 people of third dan and above and drew attendees from 49 provinces, from Hakkaido in the North to Kyushu in the South. Everyone enjoyed a wonderful time and the two days ended successfully and without injury.
Due to the excellent job that General Affairs Director Shigemi Inagaki did as master of ceremonies, the Saturday evening party was thoroughly enjoyed by Doshu and all participants as the spirit of friendship within martial arts was strengthened.
Aiki Shrine Taisai 2005(2005/6/1written)
On 29th April over 1100 people gathered on a fine spring day to celebrate the Aiki Shrine Taisai. There were speeches, offerings were made to the shrine, memorial services were given for the Founder and the second Doshu, and finally Moriteru Ueshiba Doshu performed a demonstration to honor the event. Then everyone moved back to the dojo and the open area around it to enjoy themselves beneath the clear sky. Most years the azaleas around the dojo grounds would be in full bloom, however this year they were a little late and were only partly open. People enjoyed the pleasant atmosphere of the beautifully cared for Aiki gardens until after two in the afternoon.
Ibaraki Branch Dojo-60 years anniversary memorial seminar(2005/2/15written)

Ibaraki Branch Dojo was established in 1945 when the World War II was over. Founder, Morihei Ueshiba O-sensei, used this dojo to train the instructors for the country recovery from the war, and to complete his Modern Aikido style. Here is the venerable dojo with his soul and sweat. So we think it is very meaningful to have the memorial seminar here by Moriteru Ueshiba Doshu.
Please join this special event to celebrate 60 years anniversary with us!

New Year's Greeting from Doshu (2005/1/16written)
Happy New Year. I hope everyone has started the new year safe and sound.
Last year was a year of much suffering and sadness with a severely hot summer, huge typhoons and the Niigata earthquake in Japan, and overseas the destruction and loss of life caused by the Sumatran earthquake. Nevertheless, during this past year the Aikikai Foundation Inc. has continued its activities smoothly, both nationally and abroad, for which I am truly grateful.
The Ibaraki Branch Dojo enters its second year under the new system. During the past year the teaching structure has been reorganised and the number of people coming to study from Ibaraki Prefecture, nationally and internationally has been growing. Volunteers have worked to weed and tidy the surrounds of the Aikijinja and the dojo so that the area is now just like a park. At the beginning of April the cherry blossoms will bloom, around the time of the Aikijinja Taisai the more than one hundred mountain azaleas will be covered in blossoms, and there will be a multitude of other flowers to enjoy as the seasons pass.
This year started with Kagami Biraki on 16th January and monthly festivals will continue throughout the year so please contact the office and do pay the dojo a visit.
Doshu wo Kakomu kai (2004/12/23written)

Aikikai Foundation Ibaraki Branch Dojo (2004/06/24written)
This dojo has a distinguished history. It was built by the founder of aikido, Morihei Ueshiba O-Sensei, in 1945, the last year of the Second
World War. It has absorbed the sweat and effort of O-Sensei like no other dojo in the world. For more than thirty years after the passing of O-Sensei the dojo and shrine were managed and cared for by Morihiro Saito Shihan who was Dojo Head during that time.
Saito Shihan passed away in May 2002 and his son, Hitohiro Saito, assumed the role of Acting Dojo Head under Dojo Head Moriteru Ueshiba Doshu. However, in November 2003 Hitohiro announced; "I am relinquishing the responsibility for managing and caring for the shrine and dojo. I am withdrawing from the Aikikai Foundation and will have no further relationship with it." Therefore, in December 2003 a new structure came into being. Moriteru Ueshiba Doshu is the Dojo Head and Hiroshi Isoyama Shihan is Acting Dojo Head. They are supported by a core of direct students of the Founder.Non-competitive aikido is now practiced in more than eighty countries throughout the world. This is surely due to the fact that, more than just a combative sport, aikido has deeply spiritual elements. The Founder's teaching is more than mere technique. Through the practice of aikido, we should seek for the true path of being human. The Founder
always wished for peace throughout the world. Our efforts should not be for ourselves alone, but should serve our community, and the nation's peace and prosperity. Furthermore, we should join together to build world peace.
Aikido must not be a vehicle for blind self interest. From now onwards the Ibaraki Branch Dojo will be open to all, irrespective of race, religion or national boundaries. The instructors wish to work enthusiastically as one to develop an enlightened dojo.
